A five-year-old autistic Florida girl was rescued by Florida deputies in Hillsborough County, with the rapid deployment of infrared technology, after she wandered into swampy woodlands.
Shortly after 5 pm on Monday, the Aviation Unit at the County Sheriff’s Office was asked to help with a missing persons report.
The missing person was a five-year-old little girl who had wandered away from her home.


Deploying the thermal imaging technology in a search drone, the Aviation Unit was able to locate the child within the hour.
Thermal camera footage showed the little girl walking through woods, leading deputies to her location exact location in the alligator infested swamp.

‘There she is’. After locating the child, the deputy is heard telling her ‘Hi baby girl, let’s get you out of the water.’

    As the deputy is taking her to dry land the adorable child repeats ‘get me out of the water’

    ‘[The deputies’] quick action saved the day, turning potential tragedy into a hopeful reunion,’ said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
    ‘Their dedication shows what service and protection are all about here at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.’ 
    Bodycam footage of the rescue shows the touching moment that the deputies finally found the child.
    ‘Oh, there she is,’ one of the deputies said. The deputies then beckoned her over, saying ‘come here sweetie’ and ‘come here sweetheart.

      “You’ve walking for quite a bit’. ‘We were looking for you’ the deputy tells the child as he set her down on the tailboard of the police truck

        The deputy leading the group reached out his arms as he navigated through the swampy water to scoop the little girl out.  
        ‘Hi baby girl,’ the deputy said. ‘Let’s get you out of the water.’
        After carrying the five-year-old through the woodlands and back to their vehicles, the deputies checked to make sure she had no injuries.  
        The little girl was found with no reported injuries before being returned to her family. 
        ‘We were looking for you sweetheart,’ the deputy said at the end of the heartwarming rescue.
