    Two white supremacists, including who one broke out of prison custody during a hospital visit, in Boise, Idaho, have been recaptured in hours but not before they killed two people, police believe.
    Now back in custody Skylar Meade, 31, and his accomplice Nicholas Umphenour, 28, are being investigated for two murders carried out within hours of Meade escaping custody on Wednesday morning. They were arrested with a middle-aged women, Tonia Huber, 52, who harbored them after the prison break.
    At the arraignments for all three suspects in Twin Falls County, Nicholas Umphenour, was held at Ada County jail in lieu a $2 million bond.
    Prosecutor Grant Loebs wanted $500,000 bail for Tonia Huber of Filer, since she harbored fugitives.
    He also explained she drove 100 mph through neighborhoods in Twin Falls before being arrested in the parking lot of a Walgreens store. Additionally Huber was found to have fentanyl in her possession.
    Judge Benjamin Harmer ultimately did not countenance the appeal by Huber’s public defender that since she is employed in the healthcare industry and having to provide for her family, including her grandchildren, her bond should be reduced.

    Three Idaho Department of Corrections officers were shot when a gunman burst into St Alphonse hospital in Boise, Wednesday morning and sprang prisoner Skylar Meade, who was being treated under guard. The gunman has been identified as Nicholas Umphenour.
    The pair fled but Meade was arrested alongside Umphenour after a car chase at 2pm on Thursday afternoon in Twin Falls, Idaho.
    Boise Police Department said it is now investigating two separate homicides, one in Nez Perce County and another in Clearwater County potentially connected to the pair, both members of the Aryan Knights.
    Officers said the fugitives had ditched their get away vehicle, driving off instead in a vehicle that belonged to one of the homicide victims.
    The set of handcuffs worn by Meade when he escaped was found at the scene of one of the killings.
    ‘What we know, with near certainty, this was not an accident,’ said Josh Tewalt of the Corrections Department. 
    ‘This was a planned event. And we’re channeling every resource we have into trying to understand exactly how they went about planning it.’

      The prison break unfolded as prison staff were preparing to return Meade to jail early Wednesday morning. An armed man began shooting at officers, striking two of them.
      One officer is in a critical but stable condition, another has serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the third was not seriously injured when mistakenly shot by an arriving Boise police officer, a spokesperson said. Responding to the incident, one BPD officer fired at an armed person near the entrance, who was later determined to be a corrections officer
      According to Boise police, a preliminary investigation indicates that Meade made his escape in a grey four-door sedan and fled the area just before officers arrived. 
      Idaho State Police said that vehicle, a 2020 Honda Civic, was later found near Leland, Idaho, south of Kendrick.
      Meade has been serving time in prison for aggravated battery on a Twin Falls officer and was convicted in 2016 and was set to be released in 2036, KMVT reports.

      Officers from Boise PD at a press conference Thursday said they feared escaped white supremacist Skylar Meade and his accomplice Nicholas Umphenour, may have committed two murders while on the run 

        Idaho Department of Corrections said Meade ‘engaged in self-injurious behavior’ on Tuesday night, and prison medical staff determined he needed to be taken to hospital for treatment, Idaho State Police said.
        He has has prior convictions including felony possession of a controlled substance, grand theft, and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. 
        He has been incarcerated since October 2016 and his most recent sentence was set to end October 2036.
        Umphenour was imprisoned from December 2020 to January 2024 at the same Idaho Max Security institution in which Meade was serving his sentence, at times sharing the same housing unit, Tewalt said. 
        Chief Ron Winegar in his statement noted that: ‘This brazen, violent, and apparently coordinated attack on Idaho Department of Corrections personnel, to facilitate an escape of a dangerous inmate, was carried out right in front of the Emergency Department, where people come for medical help, often in the direst circumstances. 

            The shooting happened in the ambulance bay by the emergency depart at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, on Wednesday, March 20. The 2020 Honda Civic, in which the pair escaped was later found near Leland, Idaho, south of Kendrick

            After fleeing Boise in a Honda Civic, the pair headed north and encountered 83-year-old James L. Mauney, as he walked his dogs near the town of Juliaetta.
            The fugitives police believe, kidnapped Mauney and his dogs in a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. Hours later cops found the Civic and the body of Mauney.
            Meanwhile, ISP also worked with the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday to investigate the homicide of 72-year-old Gerald “Don” Henderson at his home in a secluded area outside Orofino. Mauney’s dogs and a pair of shackles worn by Skylar Meade, were located at Henderson’s home.
            Detectives believe Henderson might have known the suspects.
            On Thursday March 21, cops located the stolen Chrysler Pacifica at a residence in Filer and believe the suspects may have traveled through Missoula, Montana, to get there.
            Meade and Umphenour left in different vehicles. Meade was stopped and arrested at Walgreens on Pole Line Road. Tonia Huber from Filer, was arrested as well.
            Gunman Nicholas Umphenour who was arrested separately by deputies in Twin Falls County, is facing two additional charges of aggravated battery against law enforcement and one charge of aiding and abetting an escape.
