Florida teenage given shelter by girlfriend’s family only to turn and kill his host in spat over ‘inappropriate’ social media posts to face charges

Poole told Jones he had to leave, the teen pulled out a gun and shot his host and fled, but turned himself Aug. 21, three days later

After his surrender on Wednesday, Jones was transported to the Broward County Main Jail and booked on first-degree murder with a firearm

Jones fled from the scene with his girlfriend, Jessie Poole, who was also safely located following his arrest.

A Florida teenager who fled the scene on Monday August 19, after shooting dead his girlfriend’s father at his home after they got into a heated argument over ‘inappropriate’ social media photos, has been charged with murder
The shooter, Lawan Jr. Jones, 18, turned himself into cops on Wednesday, August 21, three days after going on the run.
Jones witnesses told police, shot his girlfriend Jessie’s father was shot several times at the front of his own home in Pompano Beach, Florida. 44-year-old Keith Poole, a father of three daughters, was shot in front of his children.
Jones was in a relationship with Poole’s oldest daughter, Jessie, and lived in the home with the Poole family.

Witnesses recounted an argument that ensued after Poole saw social media posts which he thought were inappropriate.
According to the arrest affidavit, an argument ensued after Poole ‘became aware that the suspect had posted photographs on social media of himself holding a firearm.’
He ‘told Jones that it was not appropriate for him to do that while living in his house, and that he would have to leave.’
Jones according to witness accounts, was incensed and ‘threatened that he could have his friends come over and ”take care of the problem”.’
This prompted Poole to once again insist Jones leave his home, guiding the latter to the front door and standing at his doorway.

Facebook posts by Jones includes several photos and references to Jessie. Poole cops said, outraged about photos in which Jones posed with a gun, scolded the teen, stating it was not appropriate while living in his house, and that he would have to leave’

The affidavit states: ‘Jones took several several steps away from the front door, before then turning around. Pulling a handgun out of a satchel slung over his right shoulder and pointing at the victim, ‘fired two shots, hitting the victim in the face and chest’.
Jones then fled from the scene with his girlfriend, Jessie Poole.
This witness noted that Poole was not being aggressive and posed no physical threat to Jones when he was shot.
The arrest affidavit reveals that responding officers arriving around 4:44 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, saw ‘an open front door with blood inside and outside the immediate area of the door.’  Poole, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was transported by paramedics to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced deceased.

After Jones turned himself in at the BSO West Park District Office on Wednesday, he was transported to the Broward County Main Jail and booked on first-degree murder with a firearm.
Following the shooting Jones had fled from the home with his girlfriend, Jessie Poole. She was safely located following his arrest, police said.
Jones’ Facebook page includes several pictures of and references to Jessie, including photos taken on a ‘baecation’ from December 2023, along with a more recent trip to Beachwood, Ohio which includes videos of the couple and a picture of a drawing in the snow of a heart with the letters ‘L + J’ in the middle.
Tributes have been pouring in for the dedicated father, who has been remembered as an ‘amazing human’ who people gravitated toward.

Lawan Jr. Jones was dating Poole’s daughter Jessie. Images posted on his Facebook page from a recent trip to Beachwood, Ohio includes videos of the couple and a photo of a drawing in the snow of a heart inscribed with the letters ‘L + J’

A Go Fund Me has been set up to help financially support his young family in the wake of the tragedy. 
Lawyers acting on behalf of Jones have issued a demand for discovery and a demand for a jury trial to fight the charges.
