The arrest is connected to the 2025 killing of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose dismembered body was found inside a vehicle abandoned for days, on a quiet street in Los Angeles before it was stored at an impound lot. The Tesla SUV was registered to the singer.
The singer denies the allegations, with his attorneys noting there has been no grand jury indictment and no criminal complaint filed. Burke is being held in jail without bail.

Rivas, from Lake Elsinore in California, was reported missing by her family in 2024 when she was 13.
Investigators say she was 14 when she died. Her body was discovered a day after her 15th birthday in September 2025.
Her remains were discovered after the 2023 Tesla Model Y, which was registered to Burke’s address in Texas, was impounded.
The vehicle had sat on a public street for more than 72 hours and was seemingly abandoned, according to the LAPD.
Employees at the Hollywood Tow yard called police after they noticed a stench coming from the vehicle.
Investigators searched the Tesla and found a cadaver bag ‘covered with insects and a strong odor of decay,’ court documents said.
‘Detectives partially unzipped the bag and observed a decomposed head and torso,’ the filings added.
LA medical examiner’s office investigators then removed the bag and ‘discovered the arms and legs had been severed from the body,’ according to court documents.
A second black bag was found under the first, and dismembered body parts were inside it. No cause of death has been publicly revealed.

The coroner determined that Rivas had been deceased in the vehicle for ‘an extended period of time before being found’.
The medical examiner said she was wearing black leggings, a tube top, a yellow metal chain bracelet and stud earrings when she was found.
Neighbors said the Tesla had been moved several times over the preceding three months before it was left on Bluebird Avenue in the Hollywood Hills.
Police said the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Monday, April 20.
Acknowledging they were aware of the arrest, the DA’s office said its Major Crimes Division will review the case to determine whether there is enough evidence to file charges.

The grand jury investigation into Burke began in mid-November.
Jurors were presented evidence by prosecutors and relevant individuals were called to testify, including the singer’s managers and his friend Neo Langston.
LAPD officers last September seized a computer while executing a warrant to search against the home Burke was renting for $20,000-a-month home in Hollywood Hills. However, shortly after the raid Burke broke his lease and moved out of the home.
People close to Burke, who said he and Rivas were ‘frequently’ seen together, believe the pair were romantically involved.

Celeste was a 120lbs 13-year-old when she disappeared in April 2024. Hearing of the gruesome discovery, her mother was convinced her daughter, now 15, matched the description police provided of the remains found in the abandoned Tesla

Insiders who partied with the alleged couple, added that they believed Rivas was far older than she really was – at least 19.
The teenager’s mother, who reported her missing three different times throughout 2024, has said her daughter was dating a guy she never met, named David.
It has also previously been reported that the two shared matching ‘Sshhh’ tattoos on their right index fingers.
D4vd, pronounced ‘David,’ gained popularity among Gen Z fans for his blend of indie rock, R&B and lo-fi pop. He went viral on TikTok in 2022 and landed a record deal.
His popularity led to collaborations with stars such as SZA and Kali Uchis.
When the teenager’s body was discovered, Burke had been on a tour in support of his first full-length album. The tour was later canceled.

Burke denies the allegations. His attorneys maintain their client is innocent, noting there has been no grand jury indictment, no criminal complaint filed. He is being held in jail without bail

Burke denies the allegations, with his attorneys noting there has been no grand jury indictment and no criminal complaint filed.
In a statement below, Burke’s attorneys – Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter – said he is innocent: “Let us be clear — the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death,” the attorneys said. “There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend his innocence.”
