Billy Paul, singer famous for ‘Me and Mrs. Jones,’ dead at 81

Paul was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was hospitalized last week at Temple University Hospital, his manager Beverly Gay told Philadelphia news outlet NBC 10.
He died Sunday at his home in Blackwood, N.J, according to Gay. A message was posted on his website shortly after his death.

Paul was known for the ’70s single “Me and Mrs. Jones,” for which he won a Grammy.
He began his career in showbiz at age 11 when he appeared on the Philly-based radio station WPEN and attended the West Philadelphia Music School and the Granoff School of Music where he received his vocal training.
He served in the Army in 1957 along with fellow musicians Elvis Presley and Gary Crosby, son of Bing Crosby, according to a bio posted on Billypaul.com.
Paul is survived by his wife Blanche.
