On Friday Shaun Hardy, 32, admitted the killing his ex-wife after breaking down in sobs when officers arrived to search his suburban Galveston County home.
He was arrested after officers found a body, who the medical examiner later confirmed was Anne-Christine Johnson, stashed in his garage.

Anne-Christine Johnson, 30, went missing on December 8 after visiting her ex-husband Shaun Hardy at his home in League City in Galveston County, Texas, sparking a huge missing person’s search.

Hardy who had been questioned three weeks earlier by police when Johnson did not return home, but claimed she he last saw her on Dec. 8 leave his house in a white car of unknown make with an unidentified man. He confessed to her murder on December 30, according to report in the Houston Chronicle.
In his sworn affidavit, Hardy told police “I threw her on the ground, as hard as I could.”
Adding that once she was already bleeding on the ground, he kicked a knife into her chest.Then finished her off by pulling a Kroger bag over her head to put her “out of her misery,” according to a sworn affidavit.
The search for the missing woman came to an end on Friday just after 2 p.m., when League City police showed up at Hardy’s home with a search warrant to retrieve cell phones. When a detective drew near the garage, he noticed a “strong odor of decaying flesh” that only grew stronger as he opened the garage door.
Police found the remains of the mother-of two wrapped in plastic sheath and duct tape in the garage with scented candles splayed around it to mask the smell.
There was evidence that he also used ammonia to wipe her blood off the floor
Although the couple had divorced in 2015 and were in the middle of a custody battle over their five-year-old son, police say Anne-Christine Johnson sometimes stayed with her ex-husband in his home
Hardy initially refused to talk to police without his lawyer present, then changed his mind and gave a recorded interview. The suspect told officers that he threw his ex-wife on the ground and left her there bleeding. When Johnson held a knife to her chest as if to stab herself, Hardy kicked the hilt so hard he dented his shoe, according to the affidavit.
He said as the victim coughed and gargled, he threw a Kroger [plastic] shopping bag over her head. The body still wearing Christmas pajamas and had a Kroger bag over her head, when it was recovered.
The medical examiner determined that she had two puncture wounds in the neck and a chest and “a wound that could have been caused by a knife in her chest,” and concluded that she was probably killed on or about Dec. 8 – the day she went missing.
Hardy reportedly told officers how he ‘wanted to watch her die’ when she came to his house. Ms Johnson allegedly held a knife to her own chest as if to kill herself when he kicked it into body.
He eventually suffocated her with a plastic bag to ‘put her out of her misery’.
Hardy has been charged with murder and felony tampering with evidence.He is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
The victim’s mother, Stephanie Johnson said her daughter was a poet and a photographer who had an 8-year-old son who living with her first ex-husband, but she lived with a 5-year-old son with autism from her second marriage.
According to police the victim sometimes stayed with her ex-husband, in his home.
