Police have not released exact cause of death, but the coroner said it was “other than accidental,” police confirmed Kiaya’s death was being investigated as a homicide.

The 10-year-old girl went missing after leaving home with him on Wednesday evening and was found dead, just hours later.
The boy, who has not been identified because he is a minor, was arrested late on Saturday night by Thornton Police after the body of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell [photo], was found in a grassy park area the night she went missing.
A statement from police said: ‘Last night at 11:38 pm, Thornton Police Detectives arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male who was booked and transported to the Adams County Juvenile Detention facility. The juvenile male was arrested for investigation of first degree murder,’ according to KDVR.
Kiaya’s father told police his daughter left home with his girlfriend’s 15-year-old son to walk to a nearby shopping center.
The teen later told police he lost Kiaya after they got separated when a rainstorm swept through the town, which is about 10 miles north of Denver.
Hundreds turned out to help in searching for Kiaya after she went missing. Her body was found hours after she was reported missing.

Campbell who lives with her mother in Montbello and was not familiar with the area near her father’s Thornton home. She was first reported missing by her sister just before midnight on Thursday.
The 10-year-old’s body was later found about a mile from her home. Locals said they do not remember it raining on Wednesday night.
A cause of death has not been determined, however the coroner stated it was: ‘other than accidental’.
Police confirmed Friday, that her death was being investigated as a homicide.
KDVR reports neighbors and those who knew the 10-year-old described her as a happy, loving, young girl.

‘This beautiful soul was stolen from us. We appreciate everything everyone has done in this situation. Now we just appreciate anything anyone can do to help out her to rest,’ the page read.
It set a goal of $10,000, and has already smashed through that. As of 2:50pm on Sunday, more than $11,750 had been donated.
