A devastated dad has lashed out at police after his daughter was killed in a car accident involving Wisconsin Democratic leader Janet Bewley.
Brandon Fink said at the time of the incident that he was terrified Bewley, 70, would not be charged in connection to the horror crash, which killed his five-year-old daughter and her mother.
Senate Minority Leader Janet Bewley was involved in a fatal car crash Friday that left a mother and her 5-year-old daughter dead on July 22, 2022.
Bewley, a Democrat who represents a district that covers the northwestern part of the state, pulled out of a Lake Superior beach entrance and into the path of a car driven by 27-year-old Alyssa Ortman of Pennsylvania, according to the Ashland Police Department.
The politician had undergone cataract eye surgery the day before the crash where she pulled out of the Maslowski beach parking lot and straight into the path of Ortman’s car on July 22 last year.
When the two cars collided, Ortman’s vehicle spun across the Highway before being hit by Jodi Munson, 45, in another vehicle.

Ashland Police Chief Bill Hagstrom at the time said that Bewley was not injured in the crash and that he has not yet determined whether charges will be filed against one of the drivers.
The husband and father is now calling on authorities to do something nearly seven months on from the fatal collision – with no criminal charges currently being brought.
Fink has accused police of failing to tell him that a Senator was even involved in the crash, claiming he only found out through a family member four days after the death of his wife and daughter.
The US Marine lodged a wrongful death suit in the Wisconsin Circuit Court in October for his daughter in which he is claiming that Bewley was ‘buddy buddy’ with cops and firemen after the incident.

A report issued by the Wisconsin State Patrol claims that Alyssa Ortman was way above the speed limit – more than 100mph – in a 45mph zone, at the time of the crash.
Brandon Fink says that he only found out about the police report a day after he filed the civil suit, even as he admits that witnesses did initially say his wife was speeding.
He said: ‘I will simply share the truth about what I’ve seen and been told through this process of them not bringing any charges on the Senator whose car struck the one my beautiful 5-year-old daughter was in and killed her instantly, and let people decide for themselves how well and fairly this has been treated.
‘Right after her car hit and killed a beautiful 5-year-old American girl, she was being buddy buddy with cops and firemen, and telling people it was just a little accident like there’s nothing to see here.

‘I bet nothing about that will be included in this department’s report that decisions are being made on.
‘That was one of the most painful moments of this entire thing for me. Hearing that my daughter meant so little to this person that they instantly just got out of the car and started acting like it was no big deal she had been in an accident where she hit someone, and a little girl died.
‘Not a single tear, and not one apology. It might have been said to the news or something, but never to me from her. Not once. No reach out, no sorry for your loss, and not even flowers sent to the home.
‘From where I sit, ‘legal’ or not, this all certainly felt absolutely heartless and just shattered my heart even more to hear and see.’

Fink is questioning why it had been over seven months before any decision or charges had been made.
He claims he was initially told it would take ‘one or two weeks’ for a decision on criminal charges to be made and slammed Senator Bewley, the other driver, for being on the phone giving an interview.
Fink said he couldn’t find a ‘single case’ for someone not being restricted from driving after eye surgery and believes that the District Attorney doesn’t ‘plan on pushing any criminal charges’ against her.

Brandon Fink has slammed police for allowing the senator to ‘go free, enjoy a wealthy retirement and holidays with their family’ as he ‘suffers’ and misses his family

‘This isn’t just some bill or law or to find Grey areas and loopholes over, it is about the life of an amazing kid who at 5 had already made people all over the world smile and was loved dearly by any community she encountered be it school, dance, or virtual, she was impossible to be around without a smile,’ Fink added.
‘If you tried, she would literally put on a costume and sing and dance til you did. She was an amazing special little girl.
‘I honestly felt I’ve had enough to deal with losing her, let alone all this all this on top of it and now the person that hit her and got out and instantly started downplaying this whole situation now gets to go free, enjoy a wealthy retirement and holidays with their family as I sit here and suffer, missing mine.’

Alyssa Ortman was a certified clinical medical assistant and, for the past four years, worked as an order entry specialist at Lincare, a company that supplies respiratory-therapy products and services for patients at home.
A memorial set up for Alyssa and Khali revealed that Alyssa’s mother, Ginger, has suffered double heartache after losing her son Chris to a drunk driver in October 2020.

In a statement about the wreck at the time of the incident, Bewley’s office made no mention of the cataract surgery. The state senator said she is not seeking reelection because she wants to spend more time with her recently retired husband and grandchildren.

State police charged Warren Miller with a felony count of vehicular homicide for the death of Chris Ortman, after his Chevrolet Malibu smashed into Ortman’s Mercury Sable.
Like his sister, Chris Ortman was then hit by another car after being pushed into the road and was rushed to hospital but died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Khali was pronounced dead at the scene, while her 27-year-old mom, Alyssa, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died. No charges have been brought after seven months, but the Ashland District Attorney’s office says the case is ‘ongoing’

Fink remarks that in a statement about the wreck at the time of the incident, Bewley’s office made no mention of the cataract surgery. Their statement was: ‘Senator Bewley was involved in a three-vehicle accident in Ashland, Wisconsin on Friday, July 22nd. Tragically, two people lost their lives. This is a heartbreaking event for the community.
Our thoughts and prayers are focused on the individuals involved, their families and their loved ones.
‘Senator Bewley, who was not seriously injured in the accident, wants to thank all the dedicated law enforcement and emergency medical personnel who helped in the aftermath of the accident.
‘A police investigation is ongoing. Out of respect for that investigation and the privacy of all the families involved, our office will be withholding further comment at this time.’
Bewley, a member of the Senate since 2015, said she is not seeking reelection because she wanted to spend more time with her recently retired husband and grandchildren.
