A 14-year-old Kansas runaway shot herself, fatally, in front of a stunned deputy sheriff, even as the lawman was trying to convince the girl to return to her family.
Jaylee Chillson was at an outdoor party in the rural city of Aurora around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after the Cloud County Sheriff’s Office received a call that she had run away from home earlier, KAKE-TV News reported.
The deputy tracked Chillson down and was trying to talk her into returning home when she pulled out a gun. The teenager died in her father’s arms after disobeying her parents to attend a party before shooting herself when deputies tried to bring her home.
“He was escorting her to his patrol vehicle when she pulled out a firearm and shot herself,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

According to her family On September 17, Jaylee left her family home to attend the gathering in a field in Aurora, Kansas, after being told she wasn’t allowed to go.

Jaylee’s parents had been worried about their daughter, who had a history of being bullied in their rural community, because they believed she may have left home with a 20-year-old male.
“She just left without permission. It wasn’t like she packed a bag or anything.”
Jeb Chillson said he attempted to track down his daughter, calling the authorities to help in the search when he realized where she outdoor party. He recalls hearing a gunshot after a Cloud County Sheriff’s Office deputy tracked down Jaylee.
‘I heard people talking about a gun. I hear a gunshot ring out, and I call the dispatch and ask if their deputy shot, and they said no, but they hear reports of shots fired’, he said.

They say that she had been mercilessly bullied for years, with Clay County school district failing to do anything about it despite their numerous concerns.

‘They told me not to go in there, but I said used to be an EMT, I can help. When I got closer, they told me that there was a girl shot, so I took off running.
‘I see my daughter on the ground, being held up by one of the party goes. As I come up to the deputy, he tells me that she pulled the gun out and shot herself as he was going over to her.
‘I told them that we needed to call for a helicopter and an ambulance. We’re putting pressure on her, and when the paramedic got there, they had already made up their minds about her.’
It is unclear how the teenager got hold of the gun, with police launching a probe into her death following the incident.

The father-of-five said: ‘Both myself and the officer felt a pulse on my daughter, but the paramedic didn’t check or do anything.
‘I started doing CPR on my daughter for about ten minutes. I told them that I wasn’t going to let my daughter die without trying.
‘I’m begging them to give her an IV and to help me, but he wouldn’t. I asked him if it was about the money, then I’ll pay for it, and he starts laughing at me as I’m trying to save my daughter.

Jaylee has been described by her family as a ‘bubbly’ and ‘happy’ girl, who was the ‘best big sister’, adding that her death came as a shock to them. She reportedly shot herself as her father approached. Chillson said, ‘Both myself and the officer felt a pulse on my daughter, but the paramedic didn’t check or do anything

‘He did apologize as I was doing CPR. By the time they started the monitor it was too late. I did everything I could for as long as I could to save her.’
Jaylee has been described by her family as a ‘bubbly’ and ‘happy’ girl, who was the ‘best big sister’, adding that her death came as a shock to them.
They have set up a GoFundMe to raise money for the teenager’s funeral, which has so far raised over $8,100 of the $20,000 goal.

She came home with ‘bruises on her arms’, had a flammable substance rubbed into her hair, and moved from Clay County Center High School to Wakefield in a bid to stop the bullying. 
Her parents say ‘something needs to change’, and the entire district is in need of a ‘regime’ change. 
Her family said that she had been going to therapy to help, adding that both they and her therapist were shocked by the tragic incident.

Her mother Stacie said in a post that they are asking people to ‘say her name, share her story, and do absolutely everything in your power to stand up to the dark, hateful, cruel people of this world’ – ‘I’m also angry. I’m angry with those that hurt my baby. I’m furious with those I KNOW hurt her and will talk about her now like they didn’t play a part in crushing her.

Her mother Stacie added: ‘She deserved everything she ever could have wanted in this world. We love you with all our heart and soul our sweet baby girl. We love you more than anything.
‘The world lost one of its brightest lights. This girl has the biggest heart of anyone I know and has since she was just a little girl.
‘There wasn’t a day that went by that she couldn’t make you laugh till you couldn’t breathe. She is amazing. 
‘Perfect. Everything you could ever ask for in a daughter. She’s beautiful. She’s smart
‘I’m also angry. I’m angry with those that hurt my baby. I’m furious with those I KNOW hurt her and will talk about her now like they didn’t play a part in crushing her.
‘I’ve watched as she was not included with girls on her sports teams. Watched adults on a school level repeatedly fail her.

Police confirmed that they were called by Jaylee’s family to help look for her, though her relatives deny that she was a ‘runaway’. 
They said an investigation is ongoing.
