Prosecutors said Taylor Louise Bright kept driving after hitting her husband in January, dragging his body for a third of a mile through Seneca. The couple’s 4-year-old daughter was also in the truck.
Bright, 23, was drunk, had smoked marijuana and was pregnant at the time.
Deputies had investigated the couple for domestic violence in 2016 but filed no charges.
Taylor was charged after hitting her husband with a pickup truck and dragging him to his death, according to an arrest warrant.
She hit John Bright just after 9 p.m. on January 18 with a 2005 Dodge 350 pickup truck near the driveway to his home on South Townville Street, the warrant said.
Bright, 25, became trapped under the truck and was dragged 1,600 feet, the warrant said.
Bright was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple traumatic injuries, Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said. Adding that Bright was dragged by the truck north on South Townville, west on South Seventh Street and then south on South Fairplay Street.
The victim t died from chest and abdominal trauma due to blunt force trauma.
Taylor Louise Bright was charged with reckless vehicular homicide. and held on $100,000 bond.
She told authorities that she and her husband had a domestic disturbance and she left the home in the truck with her daughter. She claimed the truck was not operating correctly so she stopped and that is when she discovered John had been under the truck.
Although pregnant at the time, Taylor admitted she’d been smoking marijuana and drank four beers at a friend’s house.
She was arrested at the scene for suspicion of felony driving under the influence after a field sobriety test was done, the report said.
Wagner said in a statement Bright pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for reckless homicide and a 10-year prison sentence suspended to two years for unlawful neglect of a child.
