A hostage situation ended in ‘multiple fatalities’ in Oregon on Monday afternoon.
An 11-year-old boy, a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old male, suspected to be the gunman, died after officers opened fire during the hostage standoff in broad daylight at the east Salem home.
A Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy has also placed on leave after firing a “yet to be determined number of rounds,” Oregon State Police officials said. Authorities have not yet said whether the deputy shot any of those who died.
Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a “possible hostage situation” at about 12:30 p.m. at a house in the 200 block of Juneva Place SE Salem, officials said.

On arrival at the home the Sheriff’s Office negotiators called the alleged hostage taker, Jose Jesus Lopez-Tinoco, in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully, police reported.
After gunshots were heard inside the home, deputies executed “forced entry” to try to rescue any victims, according to Oregon State Police.
A deputy entered the house and fired an as-of-yet undetermined number of rounds, according to police reports.
The alleged hostage taker, Lopez-Tinoco, 34, of Woodburn, was found dead inside of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.
Diari Bustos-Bustos, 24, and an 11-year-old boy, whose name officials have not released, were both found dead in the house from gunshot wounds.
A third adult in the home, Laura Rocio-Bustos, 43, was found alive with a gunshot wound and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A 13-year-old boy was found uninjured.
Officials said Deputy Ricky Kittelson has been placed on administrative leave, which is often standard procedure whenever a law-enforcement officer fires a weapon.

Officials have not said whether Kittleson was the deputy who fired the rounds, or how many deputies were in the house at the time of the incident. Kittelson has been a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for two years.
The investigation has been turned over to the Oregon State Police, while Salem authorities are also assisting with the investigation.
